People of the World

This page has a collection of portraits/photographs taken while on street photography, as a photography teacher in a workshop or for my own street photography while on assignments.  I end up with so many photos of people because I just love getting closer, introduce myself and exchange some words with the locals. Ninety nine point nine percent of the people on this page I spent more time talking than photographing, and it was worth for all the minutes spent together. I see these photos and many great memories come back.  My camera truly is a passport to meet people.

Street Photography is what takes me to places and meet people. I do not stay only in the streets, I go inside the shops that interests me, I talk, and then I photograph, and this is the case with most of my photographs of people. Why I love and what's so cool about Street Photography? *The unexpected encounters *The accessibility but highly intimidating feeling when approaching strangers *The unpredictability *The relationship created on the spot between subject and photographer AND *The storytelling of the streets

A Fadista, Fatima. Lisbon, Portugal.

I met Ben in East Hastings, Vancouver. At first he was a little suspicious of my approach showing my camera as a way to ask if I could take a shot, but soon he totally gave in, ripping off his Canucks t-shirt to show me his secret identity.

I met Ben in East Hastings, Vancouver. At first he was a little suspicious of my approach showing my camera as a way to ask if I could take a shot, but soon he totally gave in, ripping off his Canucks t-shirt to show me his secret identity. And that is the secret to get a better shot. Move in, get closer, give time and space for your subject to feel comfortable and pose as they wish.
